Silk Biomaterials ushers in the next evolution of life sciences innovation with rebranding and new name

Silk Biomaterials announced a comprehensive rebranding, renaming itself KLISBio to advance the boundaries of contemporary medicine.

The company concentrates on creating innovative biomedical solutions addressing significant clinical gaps through a silk-based multidisciplinary platform. This approach targets conditions including peripheral nerve injuries, peripheral vascular diseases, bone defects, tendon tears, and applications requiring sustained drug delivery. Engineered silk materials combine exceptional biological and mechanical characteristics across various clinical uses.

The name KLIS (“silk” reversed) and Bio underscore the organization's dedication to leveraging silk fibroin for natural soft tissue repair. The rebrand coincides with strengthened efforts to build clinical partnerships as offerings progress toward commercialization.

The company's initial silk-based peripheral nerve repair graft was expected to reach clinical availability in 2023.

CEO Gabriele Grecchi stated: "We are challenging the status quo in regenerative medicine by leveraging silk as a powerful, biocompatible scaffold material."

KLISBio operates as a clinical-stage regenerative medicine company headquartered in Milan, Italy, with multiple assets in development including vascular grafts, bone substitutes, and rotator cuff repair solutions, all grounded in natural silk fibroin technology.
